The distances are vast in Australia; a well-equipped, comfortable and reliable caravan is essential. That’s where the GT Sport MkII comes in. It’s a solid caravan built for the long haul.
For couples and families, the GT Sport Mk2 is Roadstar’s vision for the future.
The fibreglass sandwich panel construction is as tough as nails. It will withstand all of Australia’s weather extremes, from the tropics of Far North Queensland to the wintery cold of Tasmania, hail and scorching sun.
The fibreglass panels on this caravan have an extrusion foam core. Roadstar has found extrusion foam to be more durable and, importantly, much more thermally efficient than traditional expansion foam.
The body is essentially three pieces: two side walls and a one-piece front, roof and rear, all tightly bonded and then sealed with Novatio, a special MS polymer that’s exclusive to Roadstar.
In short, the GT Sport MkII represents a complete overhaul in the way Roadstar builds caravans, making it perfect for full-time and part-time caravanners alike.
A variety of layouts are available but, more importantly, it’s the fit and finish that Roadstar is most proud of. Because of the sandwich panel construction, the cabinetry design and finish required a major rethink. The result: CAD-designed and CNC-cut furniture that integrates seamlessly into the caravan.
Beyond the independent suspension, ensuite and wall-mounted washing machine, it’s the little things that stand out in the GT Sport Mk2. Encasing the speakers in a box beneath the dinette seats lends a terrific bass to your music, while mounting the 240V powerpoints beneath the overhead cabinetry, rather than to the splashback, declutters the kitchen.
The caravan’s light weight is another highlight. With a Tare of about 2000kg (or less, depending on any additional features) and an Aggregate Trailer Mass of about 2500kg, the payload capacity is above industry standards for a tandem-axle van, and it’s readily towable by mid-size four-wheel-drives, such as the Prado.
Externally, the GT Sport Mk2 is fitted with a fold-down picnic table (it’s just not a caravan without one) and a full-width tunnel boot lined with galvanised sheet metal. Underneath, Roadstar has strapped up and otherwise protected the plumbing and wiring, while on the drawbar there are two 9kg gas cylinders (more than enough for extended touring) and a ball coupling.
The GT Sport Mk2 is not an offroad caravan but Roadstar is more than confident in its ability to handle gazetted tracks in national parks.
LED lighting throughout the van, along with air-conditioning, a 100Ah battery system, and provision for solar panels and a rearview camera, make this caravan the complete package for long-term trips.
Dexter TORFLEX (which has a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty) is a lightweight torsion arm suspension suspension that is self-contained within the axle tube. It attaches directly to the chassis, adding strength as a load-carrying cross member. TORFLEX provides improved suspension characteristics over leaf-spring axles due to the unique arrangement of a solid, heat-treated steel inner bar surrounded by four rubber cords.
As load is applied, the bar rotates, causing a rolling compressive resistance in the rubber cords. This action provides the same functions as conventional sprung axles but with several operational advantages.
Roadstar has worked exclusively with Novatio to develop an MS polymer adhesive sealant that has been specifically designed for the unique requirements of Roadstar caravans.
To save your caravan from unwanted damage and retain its resale value, it needs quality protection. This flexible, premium sealant binds instantly, meaning that each Roadstar caravan is fully protected from the second it’s applied.
Watch Novatio’s Adrian Gore demonstrate how our exclusive sealant makes Roadstar caravans so tough and resilient.
